The Expanse - Season One

Season One is the first season of Syfy‘s The Expanse. It premiered on December 14, 2015, and continued airing every Tuesday until February 2, 2016, consisting of ten one-hour episodes. The first episode was pre-released on November 23, 2015 on on-demand and streaming devices.

The series was developed for television by Alcon Entertainment. Production began in September 2014 and concluded on April 2015. Principal filming dates were between October 28, 2014 through March 27, 2015.

The first season is based on roughly 75% of the novel Leviathan Wakes with character elements from Caliban’s War and Nemesis Games. Then the fifth episode of the season adapts The Butcher of Anderson Station.

Season Two

Season Two is the second season of Syfy‘s The Expanse . It premiered on February 1, 2017, and continued airing each Wednesday until April 19, 2017, consisting of thirteen one-hour episodes.

The team began working on the season prior to receiving formal confirmation from Syfy. Production began in January 2016 and ended in November 2016 with filming dates between April 13, 2016 and wrapped September 12, 2016

The second season is largely based on the last quarter of Leviathan Wakes and roughly 65% of Caliban’s War with the sixth episode adapting Drive.

Season Three

Season Three is the third season of Syfy‘s The Expanse. It premiered on April 11, 2018, and continued airing each Wednesday until June 27, 2018, consisting of thirteen one-hour episodes. The twelfth and thirteenth episodes were aired together as part of a double-episode finale night. Syfy aired limited commercials that finale week in the U.S. market whereas Space in Canada ran normal commercials.

Production began in May 2017. The team began filming on July 12, 2017 and completed principal photography late in the night on December 5.

The third season is based on the remaining half of Caliban’s War and centers on Abaddon’s Gate.

Season Four

Season Four is the fourth season of Amazon’s The Expanse and the first to air after the migration from Syfy to Amazon Studios. Amazon officially ordered Season 4 on May 26, 2018. The season premiered on December 13, 2019 and consisted of ten episodes that were all released at once.

The fourth season centers primarily on Cibola Burn. The season also retained viewpoints of Earth, Mars and the Belt in addition to those of the Ilus-centric viewpoints in the Cibola Burn novel. The Additional plots elements involving those characters is primarily borrowed from Nemesis Games and Gods of Risk.

Season Five

Season Five is the fifth season of Amazon’s The Expanse and consists of ten episodes. Amazon officially ordered Season 5 on July 27, 2019. The season premiered on December 16, 2020 (3 episodes released at once),then episodes were released on a weekly basis each Wednesday until February 3, 2021.

The fifth season centers around Nemesis Games with plot elements from Babylon’s Ashes and The Churn.

Season Six

Season Six is the sixth and final season of Amazon’s The Expanse and marks the end of the TV series. Amazon officially ordered it on November 24, 2020. The season, which consists of a total of 6 episodes, released its first episode on December 10, 2021, with new episodes premiering each Friday weekly before concluding on January 13, 2022.

The sixth season centers around the sixth novel Babylon’s Ashes. The season also introduces a viewpoint on Laconia, the additional plot elements involving those characters coming from the novella Strange Dogs.
